Product Description
Mupimet Ointment is a topical antibiotic formulation containing Mupirocin IP 2% w/w. It is widely used for the treatment of bacterial skin infections such as impetigo, folliculitis, boils, infected cuts, and wounds. Mupirocin works by inhibiting bacterial protein synthesis, effectively killing or stopping the growth of bacteria.

Composition
- Mupirocin IP 2% w/w
Uses
- Treats impetigo caused by Staphylococcus aureus and Streptococcus pyogenes
- Manages secondarily infected traumatic skin lesions including cuts and wounds
- Treats folliculitis and furunculosis caused by susceptible bacteria
- Effective against methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) skin infections
- Treats infected eczema and other secondarily infected dermatoses
- Eliminates nasal carriage of Staphylococcus aureus in decolonization protocols
How to Use?
- Clean and dry the affected area before application
- Apply a thin layer 2–3 times daily
- Cover with sterile gauze if required
- Use as directed by physician
- Avoid applying on large areas without advice
Dosage
Apply a small amount to the affected area 3 times daily for 5-10 days; cover with a dressing if required. Review after 5 days if no improvement.
Safety Advice
- Wash hands thoroughly before and after application
- Complete the full prescribed course even if symptoms improve early
- Do not use on open deep wounds or burns without medical supervision
- Keep away from eyes; if contact occurs, rinse thoroughly with water
Precautions
- Avoid contact with eyes and mucous membranes
- Do not apply on large surface areas or under occlusive dressings for prolonged periods to minimize systemic absorption
- Discontinue if sensitization or severe local irritation occurs
- Use with caution in patients with renal impairment due to polyethylene glycol base
- Not intended for ophthalmic use
- Prolonged use may lead to overgrowth of non-susceptible organisms

- Burning sensation at application site
- Stinging or itching at application site
- Erythema and local skin irritation
- Contact dermatitis
- Dryness or rash at application site
- Rarely, systemic absorption with prolonged use on large areas
